Performance #8 - Mr. HIV +

I love to watch awards shows on television where the artist thank those who have supported them in their development and achievements. It brings me to think of how many different people affect our lives. I also like to watch beauty pageants, where one strives to be as beautiful as possible, exhibiting their “perfect” bodies. Mr. HIV + plays with both these genres of mainstream representation of the body within the media. I will be the self-proclaimed winner of my invented pageant. I will be “parading” in a bathing suit, with a banner, a tiara, flowers and a black dildo within the Engineering and Visual Art building of Concordia University with the intent of having viewers placing themselves, for a brief instant, as my persona of an HIV infected person reflecting “positively” on their life. The high level of sarcasm and humor should not distance the viewer to the cause but actually make them requestion there position, especially due to the fact that the messenger is a young attractive male that is categorized as positive.

J'aime écouter des émissions de recompenses, style Grammy, où l'artiste remercient ceux qui les ont soutenues dans leur développement et accomplissements. Ça me porte à penser comment un grand nombre de personnes différentes affectent nos vies. J'aime également observer des défilé de beauté, où les candidats(ates) tâchent d'être le plus beau comme possible en exhiber leur corps vu comme "parfait". M. HIV + joue avec ces deux genres de la représentation traditionnelle du corps dans les médias. Je serai le gagnant auto-proclamé de mon concours. J’ai "defilé" dans un costume de bain, avec une bannière, un tiara, des fleurs et un dildo noir dans l’edifice d’inginérie et des beau arts technologie de l'université de Concordia avec l'intention d'avoir ;es spectateurs se placer, pendant un bref instant, en tant que mon personage de personne infectée par HIV regardant positivement son passé. Le niveau élevé du sarcasme et d’humour ne devrait pas distancer le spectateur mais plustôt leur faire le requestionner leur position sur le VIH, particulièrement car le performeur est un jeune mâle attirant qui est classé par catégorie en tant que positif auxquel ils peuvent s’associer à plus facilement.

Performance #7 - iCan+iTransmit

In a time of media based information, we must become aware that the method used to transmit information is by the representation of the body within the media itself. iCan+iTransmit engraves itself in the mass media publicity works yet with a tonality of prevention. The iPod publicities promote our association to the figures and to the product. By this manner, I wish to represent the probability of transmission by the interaction of the represented bodies. This remix was created in hopes that it would be played on as many computers and iPod video’s as possible. The dissemination that AIDS is still very present in our society must be done and to, once again, become a concern to all.

Dans un temps où notre source d’information est ce que les médias nous présentent nous devons nous render compte que cette transmission est produite par la représentation de l’être dans les medias meme. iCan+iTransmit s’engrave dans un basin de publicité avec une tonalité de measures préventives. Tout comme les publicitées de iPod et notre association aux figures diffusées, je désire représenter la probabilitée de transmission par l’intéraction des figures que je proposes. Ce remix a été créé dans l’espoir qu’il soit jouée par autant d'ordinateurs et de iPod video que possible. La dissémination que le SIDA est toujours très présent dans notre société doit être faite et nous devons faire en sorte que ce sujet redevienne un souci pour tous.

Performance #6 - Unwillingly / À Contrecoeur

For Unwillingly, I will be dressed in black with my eyes blinded. I will walk under 100 suspended condoms, filled with the load of men. 12 of these condoms will be black, representing the present percentage of the Montreal population of men having sex with men who are infected with HIV. Each condom will be pierced and I will drink each and every one of the 100 condoms. This live performance will last about 30 minutes. The goal of this performance is to highlight the potential risk for transmission of STI’s orally.

Pour À Contrecoeur, je serai vêtu de noir avec mes yeux bandé. Je marcherai sous 100 condoms suspendus, remplis de la décharge d’hommes. 12 de ces condoms seront noir, représentant le pourcentage actuel de la population de Montréalais d’hommes ayant du sexe avec les homes qui sont infecté avec le VIH. Chaque condom sera percé et je boirai des chacune des ces 100 condoms. Cette performance aura une durée d’environ 30 minutes. Le but de cette performance est de souligner le risque potentiel de transmission par voie orale.

Performance #5 - Surrendering to Temptation/ Se Rendre à la Tentation

For "Surrendering to Temptation", I attempted to embody the persona of a corpse by lying on the floor of the bathroom of the Concordia Hall building on the 10th floor. The goal was to representing a death correlating to sexual activity, activity that happens in that very bathroom and other cruising grounds. I believe that cruising grounds, characterized by rapid and ephemeral human contacts, represents yet another space for the possibility of transmission and, consequently, the possibility of death. I tried to lied for a period of 15 minutes, naked on the floor. With this live performance, I wanted to leave a trace, a shadow of my body and the project name engraved inside “FUCKING=DEATH”. This performance was to promote dialogue vis-à-vis this subject, condoms were placed inside the traced shadow with the link to this blog.Yet this did not occur because I did not have "permission" granted for videotaping and clearance for performance. I was stopped in my process and was brought down to Concordia Security Head Office. To me this opens many questions, such as where lies space for performance in our society if it must be planned? And if I would have been granted permission to perform, I was told that they would seal off the entry, talk about a way to attain a public by performing !

Pour "Se Rendre à la Tentation", j'ai tenté d’incarner le persona d'un cadavre mort par le VIH sur le plancher de la salle de bains du Hall Building de Concordia au 10ème étage. Le but fut de représenter une mort se corrélant avec l'activité sexuelle, activités se produisant dans cette sale de bain, lieux de rencontres illicites. Je crois que ces lieux de rencontre, caractérisée par les contacts humains rapides et éphémères, représentent rien de moins qu’un autre espace pour la possibilité de transmission et, par conséquent, la possibilité de la mort. J'aurais été au sol pendant une période de 15 minutes, nue. Cette performance aurais aussi laissé sa trace; le contour de mon corps où à l'intérieur est gravé "FUCKING=DEATH" (titre du projet). Je voulais ouvrir un dialogue vis-à-vis ce sujet ainsi qu’à mes performances, des condoms furent à intérieur de la silhouette de mon corps, avec le lien à ce blog. Par contre, ceci ne s'est pas produit parce que Concordia m'avais pas accordé permission de faire cette performanceas. J'ai donc été arrêté durant ma performance et ai été escorté au bureau chef de la sécurité de Concordia. Cet arrêt et non possibilité d'expression est problématique pour moi. Comment pouvons nous faire de la performance si elle doit être toute planifié? Le droit des gens de faire un choix a être exposé à de l'art "chock" va en soit à l'encontre de sa mission qui est de prendre l'audience au depourvu. Comment pouvons nous atteindre un public qui ne veux pas nessesairement être confronté?

Performance #4 - Searching for protection – À la quête de protection

The preconceived idea that a condom fully protects you and your partner against any possible STI transmission is helping to increase the number of infected people. Even though we use condoms, there lies a possibility that our liquid of existence, our blood, can make contact through the condom and contaminate yet another person. So I had a certified nurse, take 6 test tubes of my blood that would be used in the performance. As an audience member, you watched on video the first syringe get filled with the vital liquid. Once the first syringe was filled and the cotton pad was applied to stop the flow of blood, again on video, I took the pad off live before the audience and began the performative aspect. Exposing myself, leaving a piece of clothing per test-tube, I penetrated the space wherein lied 6 test-tubes, 6 condoms and 6 lines of lubricant. I danced the dance of love and made clear that the same blood, my blood, touched both sides of the condom. The improper use of and the assumption that the condom protects 100% proliferates infections. This contact of blood to a foreign body is how people become infected. Acceptance that a condom is just a manner of simply decreasing the probability of transmission, thus having a limited liability, will help decrease infections and save people from premature death.

L'idée préconçue qu'un condom vous protège entièrement, vous et votre partenaire, contre n'importe quelle transmission possible d’ITS aide à augmenter le nombre de personnes infectées. Même si nous utilisons des condoms, il se trouve une possibilité que notre sang, peut avoir un contact avec l’autre et par ce fait infecter une autre personne. Préalablement à la performance, j'ai eu une infirmière certifiée, prendre 6 tubes éprouvettes mon sang. Lors de la performance, vous observez la première seringue se remplir et lorsque celle-ci est pleine, et que le coton est place pour coaguler mon sang, je l’enlève et je débute la performance. M'exposant, laissant un derrière moi un vêtement par éprouvette, j'ai pénétré l'espace où se trouvait les 6 éprouvettes remplies, les 6 condoms et les 6 lignes de lubrifiant. J'ai dansé la danse de l'amour et ai démontré que le même sang, mon sang, fut placé des deux côtés du condom. Je désirais rappeler que l'utilisation incorrecte et la prétention que le condom protège à 100% prolifère l'infection. Ce contact de sang à corps étranger est la manière sexuelle de transmission. L'acceptation qu'un condom n’est qu’un outil servant à réduire la probabilité de transmission aidera à réduire le nombre et sauvera des vies.

Performance #3 - Modes of Protection/Modes de Protection

Helmet, hat, gloves, cream—all different modes of protection. Protection against fractures, cold, and aging, that we all use (or should use). But we don’t all use condoms, a protection that we all should unquestionably use. Performed in public space at Concordia, people found both humor and truth in the lesson. Interactivity and pleasure were part of the performance.

Casque, chapeau, gants et crème; modes différents de se protéger. Protection contre les fractures, le froid, de vieillir ( tous des modes que nous devrions utiliser). Mais nous n’utilisons pas tous des condoms, une protection que nous devrions tous utiliser sans question. Performé dans les lieux publics de Concordia, les gens ont trouvé humour et ont tiré leçon. Interactivité et plaisirs furent parti de la performance.

Performance #2 - Cumming to Conclusions/Venir à des Conclusions

Half of a body, gets undressed, and offers a cock. It wants to stimulate itself and cum to conclusions, but for this performance, the cock does not cum to conclusions. Too often, people come to their conclusions after cumming, after already having taken the chance of getting HIV or other STI’s. Therefore, I masturbated for 10 minutes without any concurring results. This performance was located in the Concordia green screen room.

Trop souvent, les gens viennent à des conclusions suite d’être venu (jouit), suite à avoir possibilité de transmission du VIH et autre infections sexuellement transmissibles. Donc je me suis masturbé pendant 10 minutes sans résultants concluant. . Cette performance à eu lieu à Concordia dans la salle d’écran vert.
